Four-Year-Old's Thoughts

Tonight after supper, I sent Helen to the bathtub. I let her soak while I was cleaning the kitchen. Several minutes passed until I checked on her, letting her know I was ready to wash her.

She said, "Mom, I just want to die."

I wasn't sure I heard her correctly, so I asked her to repeat herself.

"Mom, I want to see Quinn again."

Sweetheart.

I explained that Jesus had a different plan for Quinn than He has for her, that He has something special for her to do here on earth while she is alive, something special for her to learn. "And besides," I told her, "Daddy and I would miss you so much, and we would be so sad if you died."

Her solution? "Then our whole family should die together."

That makes tears come. I love your explanation to Helen in answer to her thoughts. She must think often of heaven & of the little sister she misses so much. I wonder what God has in His plans for Helen! The journey continues. We love you all.

Oh Joyce, tears over here too! Helen you sweet little thing. So sorry for this heartache!! Isn't it amazing how she internalized this...so glad she could get it out and you can work through it with her. What a good mama you are, there's a plan. It seems so hazzy and fuzzy right now, and I hate the loss you have suffered. It seems very unfair. But bless you for giving Helen the hope & peace that only Jesus offers.

Dying doesn't seem near as scary after someone you loves goes before you. Sweet little Helen.

I have to come here every few months to read your very creativly written, funny and oftentimes tear-inducing blog. Joyce, I always looked up to you (with you being older and all) and wow, what a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker you have become. I am glad to say we are sisters in Christ. Praying for your sweet little girl and your breaking hearts. Thank you for sharing.
